$625 per creditThe Master of Education Reading Instruction will prepare graduates to integrate the conceptual framework for reading instruction focused upon the five essential components of reading, as well as Scarborough’s Reading Rope (2001) and the Simple View of Reading. The major required courses incorporate the International Dyslexia Associations Knowledge and Practice Standards (KPS). These standards will be addressed over a cumulative scope and sequence. The degree will prepare candidates to pass the Knowledge and Practice Examination for Effective Reading Instruction (KPEERI).
Required literacy courses cover the following KPS Standards:
- Standard 1: Foundations of Literacy Acquisition
- Standard 2: Knowledge of Diverse Reading Profiles, Including Dyslexia
- Standard 3: Assessment
- Standard 4: Structured Literacy Instruction (Essential principals, phonological awareness and phonemic awareness, phonics and word recognition, fluency, vocabulary, listening and reading comprehension, written expression)
- Standard 5: Professional Dispositions and Practices
