There are times when unplanned and unexpected costs can occur. In such cases, Emergency Aid is available to support our currently enrolled students.
Emergency Aid helps students by providing one-time assistance to those experiencing an immediate or emergent financial hardship that will hinder their ability to continue their studies at CityU. An immediate or emergent financial need is defined by a life event, unexpected financial burden or necessary expense that creates short-term financial instability.
Possible examples include:
- Involuntary loss of wages or work hours
- Food insecurity
- Emergency medical or dental costs
- Emergency or temporary housing and living expenses
- Travel due to family emergency
- Fees for DACA renewals
This above list is not all inclusive. If the reason you are seeking funds is not listed, you can still submit a request for consideration. However, scenarios that will not be considered for emergency aid are listed below.
Examples of scenarios that will not be considered include but are not limited to:
- Normal and anticipated academic expenses already covered through financial aid (tuition, regular housing, fees, and books)
- Regular anticipated fixed expenses, such as rent
- Costs for entertainment, recreation, or non-emergency travel
Minimum Qualifications
- Enrolled in a credit-bearing degree or certificate program
- 2.0 GPA for undergraduate students, 3.0 GPA for graduate or doctoral students
- No outstanding tuition balance
- Currently enrolled in credit bearing courses
- FAFSA on file
- Applicant must have already utilized awarded financial aid funding, including federal subsidized and/or unsubsidized loans
Documentation
- Must clearly show both the student’s name and the specific cost of the expense
