Message from Dean Craig Schieber

2014, dean of albright school of education, teacher, library, booksGreetings CityU Alumni, Students and Friends!

I hope this finds you well. To foster greater communications between our alumni and students we’ve decided to do a quarterly Division of Arts and Sciences Newsletter. This newsletter will feature key happenings in your division and will highlight faculty, alumni and students. As your dean, I want to say thank you for studying with us and inform you of what’s happened in the division over the last year. It’s been a busy one!

  • Our programs continue to grow and adjust to meet the needs of an ever changing job market. CityU’s Health and Human Services program is no exception. With the help of Dr. Liz Stevens, students have been placed in internships with local service providers. Dr. Stevens came to CityU with a wealth of international experience in health services, and has grown the internship program to become a major force in DAS and the local community.
  • We’ve launched a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. Dr. Vincenzo Sainato directs this program and offers a unique approach to justice. Curriculum in this program teaches justice administration, forensic investigations, information security and corporate risk. To learn more about this new program, join a virtual open house happening on March 5.
  • Anna Cholewinska received the prestigious Waldvogel Exemplar of Integrity Award. The Waldvogel Exemplar of Integrity Award is given to an individual who demonstrates courage and perseverance in championing the ideals of academic integrity in the face of opposition and/or adversity.
  • Dr. Ellen Carruth, Associate Professor of Counseling, has spent the last year working on an exploratory investigation entitled “Finding Their Voice: A Qualitative Investigation of the Perceived Impact of State Budget Cuts on Consumers of Community Mental Health and Substance Abuse Treatment.” Hear from Dr. Carruth and her students on this video.

The best to all of you as you apply the fruits of your learning at CityU in your daily professions. Please let us know if and how we can support you.

Sincerely,

Dr.  Craig Schieber
