Counseling Center Director to Participate in National Mental Health Symposium

On November 1 and 2, City University of Seattle’s Counseling Center Director, Karen Langer, LMHC, will participate in the 28th Annual Rosalynn Carter Symposium on Mental Health Policy as president of the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA). Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter will chair this invitation-only event, and the topic will be, “Beyond Stigma: Advancing the Social Inclusion of People with Mental Illnesses”.

The event was originated by the First Lady in 1985. The annual symposium brings together representatives of mental health organizations around the country to focus and coordinate efforts on key issues facing the mental health care system. In past years the symposia has examined such issues as mental illness and the elderly, child and adolescent illness, family coping, financing mental health services and research, treating mental illness in the primary care setting, and stigma and mental illness.
