Student Housing

There are a variety of benefits to living at Cornish Commons. One of the biggest advantages is getting the opportunity to live in a diverse community of students. Being in school is challenging, so living with fellow students who appreciate the time and energy it takes to succeed academically is valuable. In addition, building connections with fellow residents from diverse backgrounds allows students to share ideas and exchange resources that help them now and in the future.

One of the primary benefits to living in Cornish Commons is having the opportunity to connect with fellow students. Staff, Resident Assistants and student leaders work hard to help residents get to know their neighbors within the building by hosting a variety of fun and engaging activities each quarter. In addition, Resident Assistants are available on each floor to assist students as needed and to help foster friendships among residents.

When applying to live in Cornish Commons, residents are asked to complete a questionnaire that asks about their personal habits and preferences. Examples of questions include:

• Do you prefer to wake up early in the morning or stay up late at night?
• Do you prefer to listen to music when you study, or study in quiet?

Based on residents’ responses to the questions, CityU staff carefully match roommates as best as possible for compatibility.

Living with a roommate gives CityU students the unique and valuable opportunity to share knowledge, experiences and sometimes cultures with one another. Many of our students find it to be one of the most rewarding aspects of living in Cornish Commons.

Rates for Cornish Common vary by room type. Residents may choose 5-weeks, 3, 6, 9, or 12-month contract, and additional options may be available upon request. Housing costs will be charged in equal, quarterly installments and must be paid at the beginning of each quarter.

Rates are valid for July 2025 – June 2026

All quarterly housing fees include a $200 meal plan credit. Additional meal plan funds may be added after arrival.

Cornish Commons is a secure building, accessible only with an electronic security badge. Residents and escorted registered guests are the only students permitted access to resident floors and common areas. There are security cameras on each floor and in all common areas, which are monitored by the Campus Safety Department. In addition, Campus Safety guards routinely patrol the building performing security checks.

Each individual floor has an assigned Resident Assistant who assists with student issues and helps to foster community. Resident Assistants, as well as Housing and Residence Life Professional Staff, serve as  24/7 on-call safety and emergency personnel.

Smoking and drinking alcohol are not allowed in the building
